Modern networking places ever increasing emphasis on the roll of wireless devices. The shift of paradigm from wired to wireless technology has been well researched and corresponding practices and engineering standards have provided sophisticated solutions in many areas. Unfortunately in the areas of security and privacy enhancing technologies there remains much room both for new basic research, and for adoption of existing research into practice. In this talk we will examine case studies of fielded technologies in which the security or privacy that would have been appropriate in a wired setting are no longer sufficient in a wireless world. We will further explore some areas in which great challenges and new arms races exist in order to provide to radio frequency devices the same level of privacy enhancement currently possible in the wired model.
