GI Research Seminar "Modeling Techniques for Computer Networks Simulation"

by Klaus Wehrle last modified 2008-04-19 21:47

A lot of research in computer science is carried out in the field of distributed systems and computer networks. Topics being adressed include the development of new and improved protocols, applications, architectures, security- and quality-of-service-techniques, just to name a few. All of these topics share the fact that they heavliy rely on network simulation as an analysis and evaluation tool. As every simulation is tight to a model that represents the real world, modeling itself is a crucial step towards meaningful results. Nowadadys, inconsistent modeling leads to a poor comparability of results and raises many questions in the research community. Systematic modeling, on the other hand, of computer networks has been quite neglected so far, and the GI dagstuhl research seminar focused on this topic.
