The timeline of the research seminar is as follows:

September 10th, 2007:

Application deadline for potential participants.

Applications should consist of a brief CV and a statement to assert the experience with simulation and the interest in modeling computer networks.

September 29th, 2007:

Notification of the selected participants as well as publication of the topics and the detailed agenda.

Second week of October 2007:

Announcement and discussion of topics (by mail and CMS)

  • The participants mention their preferences. Formation of groups of authors for the planned chapters of the seminar volume.

Second week of January 2008:

First meeting (1-2 days) with short introduction of the participants and first discussion of the topics at RWTH Aachen University.

  • The participants group themselves to groups of authors for the planned chapters of the seminar volume. A first coordination of the groups takes place.
  • We also plan to invite renowned scientists from related areas in computer science to half-day tutorials. They should present proven modeling techniques and practices from their research area. As a result, the participants should get a comprehensive overview of related techniques.

End of March 2008:

Deadline for state-of-the-art sections of the specific chapters on simulation techniques and models, e.g. different protocol models, propagation models, traffic generators, topology generators and their specific models, mobility models, etc.

April 14th-18th, 2008:

GI Research Seminar at Schloss Dagstuhl

Presentation and discussion of the individual topics and chapters. Afterwards, discussion and a creative meeting in each case, in order to discuss the above mentioned questions in the group (in particular requirements and characteristics to a uniform simulation framework).

April/May 2008:

Extension and revision of the chapters based on the discussions during the GI Research Seminar.

... combined with a Peer-review-phase to guarantee the high-quality of the Seminar Volume.

June/July 2008:
